According to the decision of the UNESCO ICH State Parties’ General Assembly, Hungary, just as from 2006 till 2010, became the part of the above mentioned committee. The election for the renewal of the Intergovernmental Committee was held on the 4 July.
The Intergovernmental Committee is the supreme professional plenum of the UNESCO’s activities connected with the intangiblre cultural heritage. This institution decides about the main directions of the intangible cultural heritage politics, and so about that which elements have to be selected to the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices, the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage on Need of Urgent Safeguarding and the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In 2006 Hungary joined to the Convention and also in this year became a member of the Intergovernmental Committee which was founded 2006 as well.
The committee membership in 2014 is the recognition of Hungary’s previous work. Another key to success was the multiannual cultural-diplomatic preparatory work of the UNESCO misson and the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their well-structured and and well-timed campaign.
The documentary which was especially made for this ocassion was a riot.
