The Hungarian circus arts became an independent factor in the middle of 19th century. A high quality performing art, which requires great knowledge and endurance originated from the farces, travelling showmen, popular attractions, performances based on the special training of the animals.
Shortly after the settlement of Baroccaldi Circus of Italian origin, the performances of the Hungarian circus artists appeared also and they increased the recognition of the arts. The Hungarian State realized this, so they established the Capital Circus of Budapest at the end of 19th century. In addition many travelling private circus based on family traditions gained popularity throughout Europe and later on worldwide.
